For long-distance grandparents, siblings, friends, and others unable to attend the university ceremony Saturday [May 11], Mississippi State is broadcasting spring commencement live over the Internet.

The 1:15 p.m. graduation program will be available at the MSU Web site, http://www.msstate.edu. The University Television Center and Office of Information Technology Services will furnish the streaming video.

Glenn L. McCullough Jr., the former Tupelo mayor who now heads the Tennessee Valley Authority, is commencement speaker.

Because the spring event traditionally involves more graduates than its December counterpart, the graduation ceremony likely will take approximately two-and-a-half hours to complete. More than 2,200 students are candidates for degrees, though not all choose to participate.
