Charles P. Neimeyer, academic dean of the United States Naval War College, will discuss homeland defense and America's response to the terrorist threat during an April 24 program at Mississippi State. The university's Janos Radvanyi Chair in International Security and Strategic Studies is sponsoring his visit to the state, which includes an address on the same topic in Jackson the following day.
A frequent writer on military and national security affairs, Neimeyer will address MSU students and faculty at 11 a.m. in 211 McCool Hall. A question-and-answer period follows.
Neimeyer is the author of "America Goes to War" (New York University Press, 1997), a 244-page study of the citizen army that successfully fought the American Revolution.
A Baltimore native, he is a graduate of the University of Maryland, Georgetown University and the Naval War College. After retiring as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps, he taught history for a year at the University of Central Oklahoma before returning to the war college as the civilian Professor of National Security Affairs. In addition to serving as academic dean, he now holds the school's Forrest Sherman Chair of Public Diplomacy.
Founded in 1884 in Newport, R.I., the NWC is an education arm of the U.S. military that focuses on the art and science of naval warfare. In its broadest application, this includes, among others, the theories and concepts of sea power, naval operations, foreign policy formulation, and diplomacy.
Neimeyer will be in the capital city on the 25th for the private Executive Lecture Forum luncheon, which begins at 11:45 a.m. at the Country Club of Jackson.
Please consider this a personal invitation from Janos Radvanyi, holder of the chair that bears his name, to attend either program. For additional information, contact him at (662) 325-8406 or 341-0099.
