Contact: Maridith Geuder

An exhibit at Mississippi State through March 8 highlights the achievements of African-Americans in the United States.

A collaboration between the University Libraries and the university's Richard Holmes Cultural Diversity Center, displays in the second- and third-floor lobby areas include African and African-American dolls, posters and other materials. They are paired with a variety of books and manuscript materials from the library's collections.

An interactive component of the exhibit allows patrons to test their knowledge of Mississippi's African-American authors. A nine-question quiz at http://library.msstate.edu/special_interest/quiz is based on materials found in the library's Internet resource "Mississippi African-American Authors."

Developed by librarians Gail Peyton and Lynne Mueller, the web reference features more than 100 Mississippi authors. Detailed information, including biography and bibliography, is at http://library.msstate.edu/special_interest/Mississippi_African-American....

Exhibit co-sponsor Holmes Cultural Diversity Center is an arm of the Division of Student Affairs providing programs and resources to promote cultural awareness and encourage development of student leadership skills. Established in 1979 and named for the university's first black student, it is led by director Stacy Roberson.
