With listings as diverse as the number of law enforcement employees, county housing units, residents in the labor force, public school enrollments, and divorces, Mississippi State again offers the most varied collection of statistics about the state found in one publication.
The 34th annual Mississippi Statistical Abstract now is available from the university's College of Business and Industry. The 530-page collection is compiled by the Office of Business Research and Services in both softcover and CD-ROM versions.
Divided into 17 sections, the abstract covers virtually every major area of the state. Sections include tax structures; populations; health and vital statistics; education; labor force employment and earnings; manufacturing and trade; transportation; communications; banking, finance and insurance; law enforcement, courts and crime; forest and mineral products; public finance and tax revenues; social insurance and welfare services; government and politics; construction, housing and public utilities; agriculture; and recreation, gaming, geography, and climate.
"We're pleased to say that, since 1968, researchers, planners, educators, government officials, and so many others with an interest in Mississippi and the Southeast have anticipated the arrival of our annual publication," said editor Janis Bryant. "We hope to quickly deplete our supply of this latest version."
Printed copies are $40 each, plus $3.95 postage; the disc version, $50 each, $1.30 postage.
