Stuttgart student at Mississippi State named microbiology scholar

Harned Scholar Hallie Renschler is congratulated by adviser Frank Champlin.

Hallie S. Renschler of Stuttgart, Ark., is the 2001-02 H.H. Harned Sr. Memorial Scholar at Mississippi State University.

The $500 scholarship is a tribute to the former MSU biological sciences department head. Established in 1989 by Harned's children, the honor is presented annually to the department's outstanding microbiology major.

Renschler is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Renschler. She is a 1998 graduate of Stuttgart High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and Key Club, among other organizations.

At Mississippi State, Renschler is a President's Scholar and MSU Leadership Scholar. She is a member of the campus chapters of the American Medical Student Association and Beta Beta Beta national biological honorary.

Following graduation in May, she plans to enter medical school with a goal of becoming an orthopedic surgeon.
