A continuing partnership with a South Korean university is adding a multimedia classroom in the College of Business and Industry at Mississippi State University.
Established in 1991 by J.P. Shim of MSU, the International Business Strategy Program provides leadership skills in such areas as cross-cultural management, information technology, strategic competitiveness, comparative education, and e-commerce. The program is a cooperative effort between MSU and Kwangwoon University in Seoul, South Korea's capital city.
Youn Youn-suck, Kwangwoon's graduate business dean, and IBSP alumnus Billy Ko recently presented a $12,000 check to refit a classroom in McCool Hall, home of the MSU business college.
Shim, a Korean native and professor of information systems, joined the Starkville faculty in 1984. He said the gift "recognizes the close relationship that has developed between Mississippi State and the Korean business leaders who have participated in the program."
Primarily involving Korean business executives, IBSP provides three intensive workshops, two on the Starkville campus and one at Kwangwoon. A key feature of the hands-on training, which has graduated more than 130 to date, are in-depth visits to major American and South Korean businesses and industries.
MSU business Dean Sara Freedman said IBSP has helped to enhance greater cultural appreciation and trade between the United States and a key Asian ally.
"We greatly appreciate the contributions Kwangwoon University has made to the success of this program and the commitment of their faculty and administrators to Mississippi State," Freedman added.
