Two members of Mississippi State's music education faculty will present a Nov. 11 flute and percussion recital at the John K. Bettersworth Auditorium on the university campus.
Titled "Pipes and Drums," the 3 p.m. public program reflects the continuing interest of Lana K. Johns and Robert J. Damm in international flute and percussion music. The duo performs regularly throughout the region, most recently at the 2001 College Music Society conference in Valdosta, Ga.
Selections for the weekend program include a suite inspired by Native American styles, a fife-and-drum medley with American Revolutionary War origins, selections reminiscent of the Middle Ages in Europe, and a Brazilian children's song collection, among others.
The presentation is part of the 2001-02 Music Education Department Faculty Recital Series. The auditorium, traditionally a recital series site, is located in the William Giles Architecture Building at the intersection of Collegeview Street and Barr Avenue.
General admission to each program is $5 per person; free for MSU students. Season tickets are $30, with all monies received from the series going for student scholarships in the department.
