Swing music standards from the Big Band era will be featured in a Nov. 28 concert at Mississippi State University.

The 7:30 p.m. free program in McComas Theater will showcase the university's Jazz Ensemble, student musicians under the direction of music education department head Michael R. Brown.

The concert is a joint effort of the music education department and the University Bands.

Among program selections will be swing music standards such as Bob Seibert's "Toll Road," Green and Wols' "Until I Met You (Corner Pocket)" and Les Hooper's "One Big Happy Family." Also featured will be ballads "Just the Two of Us" and "God Bless the Child," the latter made famous by vocalist Billie Holiday. A tribute to jazz great Miles Davis will feature the ensemble playing Mark Taylor's arrangement of "Tribute to Miles."

Rounding out the program will be Latin and rock tunes, a Dixieland piece made famous by Louis Armstrong and a new swing dance tune, "Jump Start," by Matt Harris.

The MSU Jazz Combo will perform two jazz classics, "Satin Doll," and "A Night in Tunisia."
