More than 4,000 state and regional residents are expected to take part Oct. 13 in Mississippi State's fall weekend program for prospective students.
"Discovery: MSU" is scheduled 9 a.m.-noon on the University Drill Field. The information-sharing program again is being held in conjunction with Family Weekend, a two-day recognition of the mothers, fathers and siblings of already-enrolled students. Homecoming 2001 also will be celebrated during this time.
Sponsored by the Office of Enrollment Services, the "Discovery"/Family events conclude with the 1:30 p.m. football game with Troy State University.
"Discovery" features some 75 exhibits and displays prepared by academic and student-support departments. Booths dispensing snacks, soft drinks and MSU food products also will welcome visitors. Under the big-top tent, the MSU Stage and Alumni bands, Black Voices and other groups will provide musical entertainment.
"'Discovery' is designed to be colorful, exciting and informative," said enrollment services director John Dickerson. "Department members work very hard to illustrate to high school and community college students and their parents what MSU has to offer."
Family Weekend activities actually begin on Friday, the 12th, with 9-11 a.m. registration at the Drill Field tent. Following remarks by President Malcolm Portera and Vice President for Student Affairs Roy Ruby, participants may tour campus and meet with faculty members and academic advisers. A casual supper with administrators concludes the day's events.
On Saturday, family members can begin their day with a coffeehouse and continental breakfast, then attend a special program led by some of the university's top teaching faculty.
Information on MSU's Homecoming activities will be released later.
