New models of various forest industry machinery and related technology will be displayed in Oktibbeha County early next month at the 2001 Mid-South Forestry Equipment Show.
The Oct. 5-6 event will be held seven miles south of Starkville on state Highway 25 near an entrance to Mississippi State University's John W. Starr Memorial Forest. MSU's College of Forest Resources joins with the Mississippi Forestry and Mississippi Loggers associations to sponsor the bi-annual demonstration of harvesting and production rigs and accessories.
Bulldozers, fire plows, log loaders, skidders, and other equipment operating in a variety of timber types and stand conditions will be featured. Representatives of equipment manufacturers and dealers also will be on hand.
For the first time this year, the program will include presentations and activities for children led by members of the college's nationally praised Wood Magic Science Fair program. Additionally, timber industry professionals will be testing their skills in skidder, loader and other equipment competitions.
The College of Forest Resources has a new recreational vehicle park located next to the equipment show site, with advance reservations required for the equipment show dates.
