A Mississippi State sophomore from Florence is receiving the 2001-02 Donald E. Meiners/Entergy Endowed Scholarship.

Blake Webster, an electrical and computer engineering major, recently was presented with the $2,500 award at ceremonies in Jackson sponsored by the university and Entergy Mississippi Inc.

A 2000 Jackson Preparatory School graduate and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Abercrombie, Webster completed his freshman year at MSU with a 3.9 (out of 4.0) grade-point average. He is a President's Scholar and a member of the University Honors Program.

"We're very proud of Blake and his accomplishments," said college Dean A. Wayne Bennett.

First awarded at MSU last year, the scholarship was established with a $50,000 gift from Entergy to honor Meiners, president and chief executive officer of Entergy Mississippi from 1992 until his retirement in 1999. Meiners graduated from MSU's College of Engineering in 1957 and began his career with Entergy's predecessor, Mississippi Power and Light Co., three years later.

"Entergy has been a good friend to the students and faculty at the College of Engineering," Bennett said. "The Donald Meiners/Entergy Scholarship enables us to help very deserving students like Blake fund their college educations."

Awarded to a top full-time engineering major, the Meiners/Entergy Scholarship Fund is an open fund in the Mississippi State University Foundation and may be increased through additional contributions.
