Nine members of Mississippi State's freshman class are Hunter Henry Endowed Scholars in Engineering.
The university's 2001-02 Henry Scholar group includes Justin G. Baustian of Magnolia; Cody L. Davidson of Tupelo; Jacob S. Davis of Pass Christian; Tiphany L. Hall of Peach Orchard, Ark.; Barrett W. Kirsch of Decatur, Ala.; Lauren N. Michaelson of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; Alan M. Moran of Tullahoma, Tenn.; Julian K. Powers of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; and Christopher A. Williams of Livingston, Ala. Awards range from $2,500 to $3,000 annually.
Established in 1994 through a $1 million endowment, the scholarships are made possible by Mississippi State alumnus Hunter W. Henry Jr. and his wife, Lila, of San Marcos, Texas, and their son James E. "Jim" Henry of Destrehan, La., also an MSU graduate.
Recipients are either mechanical engineering or chemical engineering majors with demonstrated excellence in academic and associated activities.
Baustian, a mechanical engineering major, is the son of Glenda Fortenberry and an honors graduate of Parklane Academy.
Davidson, a chemical engineering major, is the son of Wanda Davidson and the late Robert Davidson. He was a National Merit Scholarship finalist at Tupelo High School.
Davis, a mechanical engineering major, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick Davis. He graduated first in a class of 98 at Pass Christian High School.
Hall is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Hall. A chemical engineering major, she graduated first in her Pocahontas High School class.
Kirsch, a chemical engineering major, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Kirsch. He was both home-schooled and a student at Decatur Presbyterian School.
Michaelson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Michaelson and a chemical engineering major. She graduated in the Top 10 among 381 seniors at Choctawhatchee High School.
Moran, a mechanical engineering major, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Moran. He was a member of the National Honor Society at Tullahoma High School.
Powers is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Powers and a mechanical engineering major. At Hillcrest High School, he achieved an American College Test composite score of 34 (maximum: 36).
Williams, a mechanical engineering major, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Williams. He graduated in the Top 10 of his Sumter Academy class.
