Contact: Aga Haupt

A June 9 genealogical fair at Mississippi State is expected to attract family-line researchers from throughout the region to the university's Mitchell Memorial Library.

The free 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. program is sponsored jointly by the MSU Libraries, Clay County Genealogical Society and Oktibbeha County Historical and Genealogical Society. Exhibits, displays, tours of the library's genealogical resources, and a series of workshops are scheduled.

Pre-registration by June 7 is encouraged, but not required. An $8 box lunch can be reserved if requested by that date.

The workshops, each to be held twice during the day for the convenience of participants, will address five topic areas. They include:

--Census research, to be led by Rikki Love of the Clay society;

--Genealogical computer programs, led by John Reinecke of the Oktibbeha society;

--Publishing online research, led by Becca White of the Clay society;

--Overcoming research obstacles and dead-end family lines, led by Mattie Sink of the Mitchell Library's special collections department; and

--Searching for Northern ancestors, led by special collections' Lynne Mueller.
