Mississippi State's radio station again is broadcasting at full strength to a 60-mile radius of the university campus.

WSMV-FM lost it 387-foot tower in mid-February when a violent storm with winds of more than 70 miles an hour roared through East Central Mississippi. Since then, the 14,000-watt, 24-hour station located at 91.1 on the dial operated with a campus-based antenna whose signal could only reach a short distance beyond university property.

"We are happy and relieved to finally be back at our maximum range," said station manager Steve Ellis. "This should be especially good news for the many, many faithful listeners of our daily Conference Call program."

Conference Call, which airs 5-8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, is a widely popular syndicated talk show originating in Memphis, Tenn., and covering all aspects of Southeastern Conference sports. WMSV is the only area station carrying the program.

The station, which debuted in 1994, is staffed largely by student and faculty volunteers. Located in the Student Media Center, the operation features an Alternative/Triple A music format and special weekend musical programming.

Ellis said the station's rebuilt tower on Oktoc Road also carries broadcasting equipment for several university and Oktibbeha County service and emergency operations.
