Mississippi State will hold a number of activities next week [April 1-6] as part of the National Library Week observance.
This year's theme, "@ Your Library," highlights the numerous services offered free of charge by the university's libraries.
Among the public activities is a 3 p.m. Thursday [the 5th] book talk and autograph session with Chester McKee of Starkville. MSU vice president emeritus for research, McKee is the author of "Campus Brat," a recently published memoir of his seven decades at the Starkville university.
Other public events include:
--Performances by Joseph Amos Powell and the Black Voices choir at 12:30 p.m. Monday [the 2nd] in the main floor lobby.
--A 9:30 a.m. Tuesday lecture by national media scholar and Yazoo City native John C. Merrill in the John Grisham Room.
--A Wednesday open house for colleagues at local and area libraries. A 3M Corp.-sponsored live webcast will feature various national professionals in the field discussing five-year marketing plans for different types of libraries. "How To Market @ Your Library" begins at 11 a.m. in the first-floor auditorium.
--Also on Wednesday, a 2:30 p.m. Grisham Room ceremony will honor MSU faculty, staff and students who have made significant contributions to the library.
The observance ends Friday with an appreciation luncheon for staff given by the Friends of the MSU Library.
