Mississippi State University's engineering dean is among a select group being honored by the International Engineering Consortium.

Wayne Bennett, also a professor of electrical and computer engineering, is among 14 in the nation selected to receive a 2000 IEC Fellow Award.

IEC is a 56-year-old organization sponsored by universities and engineering societies and dedicated to continuing education for the information industry. Its fellows program was established in 1994 to recognize individuals "who have given a superior level of sustained service and leadership to the information industry."

Past award recipients have included Intel Corp. chairman Gordon E. Moore and Eastman Kodak president and chief executive officer George Fisher.

Bennett has led the MSU College of Engineering since 1996. Prior to coming to Starkville, he was a faculty member and administrator at Clemson University and Virginia Tech. He previously worked for General Electric Co. and served as a consultant to a number of other companies, including IBM, Litton and Babcock and Wilcox.

Bennett also is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the author, editor or co-author of five books. He has published more than 50 research papers.

MSU is among more than 70 leading high-technology universities that currently are IEC affiliates. Industry representation includes corporate support and the active involvement of thousands of executives, managers and professionals.
