Musician and popular rock and roll historian Barry Drake is making his fourth visit to Mississippi State.
"'80s Rock: Music in the Video Age" will be the topic of his free Sept. 27 presentation in the Colvard Union ballroom. Sponsored by the university's Campus Activities Board, the multimedia program begins at 7 p.m.
Drake, a songwriter and performer with three albums to his credit, is among the most popular speakers on today's college circuit. A graduate of New York's Manhattan College, he has been named National Association of Campus Activities' lecturer of the year for five of the last six years. He also is a three-time winner of a similar honor given by the Campus Activities magazine.
Recognized as one of America's most knowledgeable sources on late 20th century popular music, Drake has developed a total of four lectures. In addition to a look at the 1980s, his other programs include "The Roots of Rock and Roll," "'60s Rock: When the Music Mattered" and "'70s Rock: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly."
