Two Mississippi State University students are being honored with national and state honors from the National Business Education Association.

Senior Sylvia B. Paige of Clarksdale recently was awarded the 2000 National Business Education Association Award of Merit, while graduate student Myesha Davis of Phillip received a similar honor from the Mississippi Business Education Association. Both were nominated by faculty members in the department of technology and education.

Paige graduated May 13 with a bachelor of science degree in teacher technology education. Davis previously completed a teacher technology education degree at MSU and now is pursuing a master's degree in instructional technology.

Based in Reston, Va., the 12,000-member NBEA is the nation's largest professional organization focusing on instruction, administration, research and, dissemination of information for and about business. The association's Mississippi chapter includes more than 800 members.

As part of the national award, Paige will receive a one-year NBEA membership and be cited for her honor in the October issue of the association's national publication.

Connie Forde, a professor in MSU's technology and education department and NBEA's 2000 Collegiate Teacher of the Year, said the annual honors reward students for their hard work.

"It is a very high honor to be selected by your faculty for the NBEA and MBEA awards of merit," she said. "All of our students at Mississippi State are hard working and these awards bring recognition to the truly outstanding achievement of two business education students."

Paige, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willie G. Bays Sr., earlier received an associate of arts degree from Coahoma Community College in secretarial science and a bachelor's degree from Delta State University in business administration.

Davis is the daughter of Tom Davis of Phillip and Fay Fleming-Davis of Montgomery, Ala.
