High school students interested in architecture careers are invited to apply for a Mississippi State summer camp that provides a detailed introduction to the profession.

The June 16-23 Design Discovery residential program is coordinated by the university's School of Architecture, the only professional architecture school in the state.

June 2 is the deadline for students 15 years of age and older to apply for the program, which coincides with one of MSU's freshman orientation sessions. Incoming freshman architecture majors are encouraged to attend the camp.

Studio sessions, design projects, field trips, and an introduction to digital technologies are part of the eight-day exploration into the practice of architecture. Cost of the seven-day program is $400, which includes housing and some meals.

Two minority student scholarships provided by the Greenwood architectural firm of Johnson-McAdams are available to applicants submitting the best entry.

The School of Architecture, established in 1973, was a national leader in incorporating computers into its curriculum. In addition to being the first to require that students have laptops, it has been at the forefront in incorporating virtual reality technology into design classes.
