Contact: Melanie Alford

Mississippi State University's Madrigal Singers and Concert Choir will perform in concert Tuesday [April 18] at the McComas Hall theater.

Sponsored by the music education department, the free program begins at 7:30 p.m. under the direction of faculty lecturer Dylan C. Savage.

The Madrigals will feature two groups of a cappella works. The first are by Renaissance and Baroque composers Orlando Gibons, Orlando di Lasso and Henry Purcell; the second by 20th century American composer Ross Lee Finney.

The singers conclude their part of the program with a spiritual by Jester Harrison, a jazz piece by Linda Spevacek, and a work composed upon traditional Jamaican rhythms and melodies by Larry Farrow.

The Concert Choir will present "Gloria" by French composer Francis Poulene. A multi-movement work of nearly 30 minutes drawing heavily from the traditional Catholic Mass, it was composed in 1959 as a commission by the Serge Koussevitsky Music Foundation.
