A Mississippi State faculty artist will present a program of 20th century music for the flute in an April 13 program at Starkville's First Presbyterian Church [307 University Drive].

The 7:30 p.m. performance by music education professor Lana Johns also will feature Leanne Fazio, organ; Robert Damm, percussion; and Kathy Anderson, piano. All are MSU music education faculty members.

Johns will perform works including "Sonate for Flute and Organ" by Hermann Schroeder, "Sonata da Chiesa for Flute and Organ" by Don Locklair, and "Nocturne and Allegro Scherzando" by Philippe Gaubert.

Other program selections include Gareth Farr's "Kembang Suling for Flute and Maramba," a new work by the New Zealand composer reflecting the musical traditions of Asia; and "Legends for Flute and Tape," an electronic work by Tennessee composer Kenneth Jacobs.

Johns holds degrees in flute performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and Florida State University. As a member of the Johns-Harrison Duo, she has specialized in 20th century American and Czech music for flute and piano.

Fazio serves as organist for Starkville's First Presbyterian Church. She earned a master's from Southern Methodist University and a doctorate from the University of Alabama, both in organ performance.

Damm holds music education degrees from Quincy University, the University of Illinois and the University of North Texas. He directs the MSU Percussion Ensemble and instructs the Famous Maroon Band Drum Line.

Anderson is a lecturer and accompanist for the Department of Music Education at Mississippi State. In addition to her work as a chamber musician, she teaches classes in voice, music appreciation and choral methods.

Future April programs include a performance by the MSU Percussion Ensemble on April 17 and a program featuring the Madrigal Singers and the Concert Choir on April 18.
