A Mississippi State University police officer is the top graduate of a recent class at the North Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Center.
John W. "Wes" Cumberland received four of the five achievement honors given at the Tupelo center's late October graduation ceremony. In addition to being named platoon leader of his 12-person class, he was recognized with awards for physical fitness, academic achievement and overall achievement.
Cumberland, formerly of Jackson, has been a full-time member of the campus law enforcement department since August.
When off-duty, the Hillcrest Christian School and Hinds Community College graduate is pursuing a bachelor's degree at MSU in the corrections option of the sociology major. He is a junior this year.
The North Mississippi training center is one of four certified regional law enforcement academies in Mississippi.
