Some 200 quarter horse riders from throughout the eastern U.S. and beyond will be at Mississippi State Oct. 2 and 3 for a horse show at the university's new AgriCenter.
Sponsored annually by the MSU Block and Bridle Club, the American Quarter Horse Association split/combined competition will begin at 9 a.m. and continue through the late afternoon each day.
Admission is free to interested members of the general public. Soft drinks, hamburgers, snacks, and other concessions will be available for sale.
Entrants will compete in halter classes, showmanship, Western pleasure, and running and cattle events, among others. AQHA members who have not pre-registered may do so prior to the beginning of competition.
Named for their ability to run a quarter of a mile faster than any other horse, quarter horses today generally are recognized as the world's most versatile breed. Quarter horse owners number more than a million and are found in all 50 states and some 60 other countries.
The MSU AgriCenter is located south of the main campus on Poorhouse Road, which may be accessed from South Montgomery Street or Oktoc Road.
