Sorority rushees work for philanthropies

Presentation Friday [Aug. 20] of handmade projects to seven philanthropies will conclude sorority rush activities at Mississippi State University for the fall semester.

An annual event for the past three years, "Fun with Philanthropy" represents the combined efforts of some 400 rush participants. The young women are spending part of the weeklong new-member selection process creating items for presentation to representatives of the philanthropies.

Beginning at 2:45 p.m. at the University Amphitheater, hand-painted flower pots, decorated piñatas and other objects will be displayed before some 800 active sorority members and would-be pledges. The outdoor ceremony is a part of "bid day," the time for selection of new members.
