Mississippi State again rated 'best buy' in national student guide

Contact: Sammy McDavid

Mississippi State University once again is among institutions included in the latest edition of "America's 100 Best College Buys."

Mississippi State is included for the third year, based on information compiled by Institutional Research and Evaluation Inc. of Gainesville, Ga., an independent research consulting organization specializing in the recruiting and retention of college students.

The listing includes institutions of every size and type that are the "highest rated academically but have the lowest total cost for the college."

Along with costs, IRE says other factors used to select the "best buys" include accreditation, residential facilities, financial aid and scholarships, entering freshman grade-point averages, ACT/SAT scores, and the cost of attendance.

As in 1999, Belhaven College and the University of Mississippi are the only other Mississippi schools included in the 2000 edition.
