Architectural renderings, models and sculptures are among nearly 40 items featured in a Mississippi State University exhibit that is visiting two state locations.
On display at the Mississippi Museum of Art in Jackson through April 4, the exhibit commemorates the 25th anniversary of the MSU School of Architecture. The display moves to the Starkville campus April 6-24 for public viewing in Giles Hall, the school's home.
As part of the silver anniversary celebration, alumni were invited to submit works representing a single architectural project. Built or unbuilt work, parts of buildings, entire buildings, furniture, and other constructions are included in the display.
"The exhibit represents a diversity of work from Mississippi State graduates around the country," said Liz Brister, the school's development officer.
Founded in 1973, the school has grown to become a national leader in architectural education. It was among the first to incorporate laptop computers and virtual reality technology into a five-year undergraduate curriculum.
The school's Small Town Center was established in 1979 to focus on the preservation and enhancement of small town life in the state, region and nation. The Jackson Community Design Center provides research and technical assistance focused on the urban environment.
The yearlong anniversary celebration concludes April 23 with a golf tournament and fund-raiser at the Dancing Rabbit Golf Club near Philadelphia.
