A Cable News Network executive and 1984 Mississippi State graduate will headline the university's Communication Days Thursday and Friday [Feb. 18 and 19].

Kevin Ivey, vice president of strategic planning and advanced projects for CNN, will join other alumni of the communication department for the two-day workshop. All workshop sessions will be held in the McComas Hall theater.

"Communication into the New Millennium: Going Where No One Has Gone Before" is this year's theme.

Ivey, a Meridian native, will deliver the keynote address at 11 a.m. Thursday. "Grand Communication Changes into the New Millennium" will be his topic.

Ivey also will join in a panel discussion on "The Evolution of Today's Media" at 2 p.m. Friday.

"Communication is such a dynamic field with so many changes occurring in both technology and content of communication that it is very difficult to keep current," said Marian Huttenstine, head of the sponsoring department of communication. "Our speakers provide students and faculty with valuable insights gained from their own experiences."

Other discussion topics include "I Wish I Knew Then: Helpful Advice From Communication Graduates," "The Story that Changed My Life," "New Communication Careers," and "So You Want to Go to Graduate School."
