Jan. 15 is the nomination deadline for Mississippi State University's 1998-99 Outstanding Woman Awards--including the Outstanding Community Woman.
The awards program is held annually by the university President's Commission on the Status of Women to recognize women who have significant accomplishments professionally and personally. Winners will be honored at a March 31 awards luncheon.
In addition to categories for university employees, one award is reserved for a resident of Starkville or Oktibbeha County who has made outstanding contributions to the community.
A letter from the PCSW detailing the nomination procedures will be mailed this week to Starkville Chamber of Commerce members. Nominators need only complete the form, since commission members will contact nominees for more information and at least two letters of reference.
The nomination form includes nominee's name, job title, address, home telephone number, and the nominator's opinion on why the nominee should receive the award.
The commission was created in the 1970s to advise the president on issues affecting the status and role of women on campus. In addition to recognizing the achievements of women through the awards program, it regularly sponsors informational and educational programs and represents individual or group concerns of women on campus.
