A graduating senior at Mississippi State University is receiving the American Society of Mechanical Engineers' top student honor for 1998.
Gulfport resident Peter J. Umbdenstock will receive the Charles T. Main Award at the society's International Mechanical Engineering Congress in November. In addition to a silver medal, the award includes a $2,000 honorarium and travel expenses to the Anaheim, Calif., meeting.
Chair of the ASME student chapter at MSU, Umbdenstock is a 1988 Gulfport High School graduate and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Umbdenstock.
The Main Award annually recognizes the most outstanding ASME student leader in the nation. Selection is based on organizational and service activities, among other criteria.
A Dean's Scholar at MSU during the 1998 spring semester, Umbdenstock will join the Trane Co. in Memphis, Tenn., following graduation in December.
