A. Wayne Bennett of Mississippi State University is among five engineering deans recently elected to a major advisory body of the American Society of Engineering Education.
Bennett, who has led MSU's College of Engineering since 1996, is a new member of the Public Policy Committee of the ASEE Deans' Council. Committee members serve three-year terms.
The society works to help the engineering community adapt to society's changing needs, while also promoting cooperation among industry, educational institutions and government. Its membership includes some 400 institutions of higher learning and more than 10,000 individuals and corporations.
Bennett and other members of the policy committee serve as liaisons between engineering education and government. They also help guide the organization on matters affecting higher education.
Other new committee members include deans at Arizona State, Virginia Tech and Pennsylvania State universities, and the University of Texas at Austin.
