Mississippi State President Malcolm Portera will be the featured speaker in Meridian for a late July gathering of university alumni in East Central Mississippi.

Portera, a West Point native and MSU alumnus who took office in January, will address the Lauderdale County Alumni Chapter's annual summer regional meeting on the 28th at the Briarwood Country Club.

The daylong event begins with lunch at 11:30 a.m., followed by a golf tournament at 12:30 p.m. A 6:30 barbecue dinner will precede the formal program.

In addition to Lauderdale, alumni from Clarke, Jasper, Kemper, Newton, and Neshoba counties are being invited. Graduates from other area counties are welcome to attend.

Also speaking at the Tuesday evening event will be football defensive coordinator Joe Lee Dunn and David Wilson, administrative assistant to head football coach Jackie Sherrill.

Bev Norment, new dean of Mississippi State's Meridian campus, also will attend.

Tickets for the evening dinner and program are $10 each. The entry fee for the scramble format golf tournament is $50 per person.
