A $27,000 contribution from a retired Mississippi State professor and his wife is being used to establish a new university laboratory in the academic area in which he once taught.
The gift of stock from Emmett A. and Kathryn P. Kimbrough of Starkville is establishing a precision agriculture laboratory in the department of agricultural and biological engineering.
The new laboratory will be used for both teaching and research, said department head Jerry Gilbert.
"Work in the lab will focus on spatial technology, which includes global positioning system technology, remote sensing and sensor development," Gilbert added.
Before retiring in 1984, Emmett Kimbrough taught for 34 years in the department of agricultural and biological engineering. His teaching and research areas included land surveying, mechanization and irrigation.
Station engineer for the MSU-based Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station 1964-84, he holds a bachelor's degree in agricultural engineering from Mississippi State and a master's from Texas A&M.
Kathryn Kimbrough was administrative assistant to the founding dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine.
