Changing U.S.-African relations focus of Jackson address

The chief spokesman for the U.S. State Department's Bureau of African Affairs will be in the state July 30 and 31 as a guest of Mississippi State University.

Louis Segesvary's visit is being sponsored by the Janos Radvanyi Chair in International Studies at MSU.

While in Jackson on the 30th, he will address the Executive Lecture Forum. At Mississippi State the following day, he will meet with students and faculty during a special afternoon gathering.

Titled "Toward a Vision of a New Partnership with Africa," Segesvary's Jackson speech will examine recent shifts in United States foreign policy toward the world's second largest continent. The program at Dennery's Restaurant begins at 11:45 a.m.

A career foreign service officer, Segesvary has served in Colombia, Guatemala, Switzerland, and, most recently, in Kenya. He holds degrees from the University of California, University of Southern California and University of Maryland.

His writings on human rights and developmental issues have appeared in the Foreign Service Journal and the Wall Street Journal, among other publications.
