Educators from around the state are expected at Mississippi State University Friday [April 24] for the third annual presentation of Jayne Burrows Sargent Awards of Excellence.

Sponsored by the university's educational leadership department, the 4 p.m. public ceremony in the Simrall Hall auditorium will announce the selection of two veteran state educators--one each at the public school and community college levels.

Mary Allen Jolley of Moundville, Ala., will be featured speaker. An economic and strategic planning consultant, Jolley is the retired director of economic and community affairs at the University of Alabama. She also is a former acting director of the Alabama Governor's Office on Children and Families.

The Sargent awards are named in honor of the veteran Mississippi educational leader who now serves as superintendent of the Jackson public schools. She formerly headed the Meridian school system.

In addition to the two primary honors, MSU's educational leadership department will give special recognition to one of its doctoral alumni.

For additional information on the ceremony, telephone department head Ned Lovell at (601) 325-3041.
