Mississippi State University is receiving the first-place award of a national publication for admissions marketing.
The recent "Leadership for 21st Century Mississippi" advertising campaign has been awarded the gold medal in the total advertising campaign category of the 13th annual Admissions Advertising Awards.
Atlanta-based Admissions Marketing Report sponsors the competition. The newsletter seeks to recognize excellence in the field among American institutions of higher learning.
One of the 500 schools that submitted a total of 1,800 entries to the 1998 competition, MSU placed first among those with 10,000 or more students. Others competing in the category included the University of Alabama at Birmingham, St. John's University in Jamaica, N.Y., Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis., and University of Missouri at St. Louis.
The campaign was designed to build on and enhance the image of the comprehensive land-grant--and Mississippi's largest--institution of higher learning.
"Leadership for 21st Century Mississippi" was designed by a university marketing committee and produced by the University Television Center, campus radio station WMSV-FM and the University Relations Office.
The campaign included billboards, radio spots, and television and print media advertisements placed around the state. A four-piece student recruiting viewbook package and other promotional materials also were incorporated into the leadership theme.
