Mississippi State University is among institutions across the country included in the latest edition of "America's 100 Best College Buys."

Published for the second year, the 276-page student guide profiles institutions of every size and type that are the "highest rated academically but have the lowest total cost for the college," according to publisher John Culler and Sons of Camden, S.C.

Along with costs, other factors used to select the "best buys" include accreditation, residential facilities, financial aid and scholarships, entering freshman grade-point averages, American College Test/Scholastic Aptitude Test scores, and the cost of attendance.

Gainesville, Ga.-based Institutional Research and Evaluation Inc. compiled the information.

The guide also includes a listing of each school's most popular majors, as well as a breakdown of enrollment and tuition costs.

Belhaven College and the University of Mississippi are the only other Mississippi schools included in the 1999 edition.
