A widely recognized education training consultant will lead a daylong program Tuesday [Feb. 3] at Mississippi State University.
Jim Grant will be guest lecturer for the 13th annual Early Childhood Conference in the Wise Center auditorium. The program begins at 9 a.m. and concludes at 3:30 p.m.
He is the founder of the Society for Developmental Education, a Petersboro, N.H.-based provider of professional staff development training for elementary educators. He also is the founder and co-executive director of the National Alliance of Multiage Educators.
The College of Education's department of curriculum and instruction and the MSU Division of Continuing Education are sponsoring the conference, which is expected to draw some 350 teachers, counselors, administrators, and others from throughout the state.
Additional participants working on the Mississippi Gulf Coast will join the presentation via the Mississippi Interactive Network from Gautier High School.
"Preventing Retention in an Era of High Standards" will be the conference theme and the focus of Grant's presentation.
Grant's views and ideas on education have appeared frequently in national publications, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and U.S. News and World Report. He also is a frequent guest on national and cable television networks.
