A national music association is naming a Mississippi State University professor chair of its society for music teacher education.
The executive board of the Music Educators National Conference has appointed Randi L'Hommedieu to serve for two years as national chair beginning in April 1998. The higher education arm of the national organization, the society represents undergraduate and graduate music education faculty.
With more than 64,000 members, MENC is the largest association dedicated to the advancement of music education. Founded in 1907, the Virginia-based association includes members from every U.S. state and from overseas.
Its goals include working to assure that students from preschool to college have access to high-quality and comprehensive music instruction. Since 1991, L'Hommedieu has served as editorial board member for the Journal of Music Teacher Education, the official publication of the society.
At Mississippi State, he has served as music education department head since 1993. He holds doctoral and master's degrees from Northwestern University and an undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
