U.S. Rep. Charles "Chip" Pickering (R-Miss.) will address the educational implications of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 during a Nov. 10 appearance at Mississippi State University.
The 3rd District congressman is a former member of U.S. Sen. Trent Lott's staff and represented the senator on the committee responsible for writing the act. The 90-minute public program begins at 3 p.m. in the Wise Center auditorium.
When it became law in February 1996, the legislation opened all telecommunications markets to competition in an effort to increase private participation in information technologies and services.
Pickering's visit is sponsored by the College of Education and the Mississippi State chapter of Phi Delta Kappa education honor society.
