A faculty member in the College of Veterinary Medicine is newly appointed to the position of research intern in Mississippi State University's Office of Research.
Jerald Ainsworth is the third person appointed to the year-long internship since the program began. He will focus on developing interdisciplinary projects and grant proposals to secure research funds, he said.
"I will coordinate grant proposals with the sponsored programs office, which is the backbone of grants projects on our campus," he explained.
The university traditionally has been ranked by the National Science Foundation among the nation's top 100 institutions for research and development funds.
"Dr. Ainsworth brings a wealth of experience in developing research programs," said Dr. Melvin C. Ray, acting vice president for research. "We're fortunate to have him in this position."
Ainsworth received his bachelor's degree from Delta State University, and his master's and Ph.D. in immunology from the University Medical Center in Jackson.
"I look forward to the challenge and opportunity of this position," he said.
