Supreme Court Justice Michael P. Mills will be guest speaker Aug. 26 for the School of Accountancy fall convocation at Mississippi State University.
Mills, who joined the state's highest court in 1995 after 12 years in the Legislature, will provide an overview of Mississippi's legal system. The hour-long public program will begin at 4:45 p.m. in the Rogers Auditorium of McCool Hall.
In the House of Representatives, he was chairman of the Judiciary "A" and Judiciary En Banc committees. He authored the White Collar Crime Act, the Statewide Grand Jury Act and the 1994 Court Reform Act, the latter of which created the Intermediate Court of Appeals and updated circuit and chancery court procedures.
An Itawamba County native, Mills is a graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Law.
