A donation from retired faculty at Mississippi State University will help purchase new library books for Mitchell Memorial Library.

In recent campus ceremonies, the Association of Retired Faculty presented a check for $2,000 to Dean of Libraries Frances Coleman.

"When I first came to campus, the entire library was housed on the top floor of Harned Hall," remarked Clinton Graves, president of the group and professor emeritus of plant pathology and weed science.

Noting the library facilities made possible by a recent $14.9 expansion, he continued, "We want to be considered a part of the library in the quest for excellence."

Book plates in each volume bought with the gift will recognize the association.

Representatives of the group also unveiled a plaque that will be permanently displayed in the third-floor lobby area of the library. It reads: "Dedicated to all who have devoted their lives to teaching, research, and service for the development of Mississippi State University and the minds of thousands of young men and women."
