A $1.2 million software donation by the world's largest database supplier will enable Mississippi State University students to gain valuable experience in the latest computer programming.
Oracle Corp. of Redwood Shores, Calif., recently provided the collection of programs and procedures as part of an academic alliance grant to three university departments.
"This support by Oracle will enhance the job prospects of Mississippi State students by providing them with experience in a high-demand software," said Nancy E. Miller, a professor of computer science in the College of Engineering.
She said that, in addition to computer science, the software will be shared among the department of management and information systems in the College of Business and Industry and the university's computer information system.
Already being used by some graduate students in computer science and information systems, the software will be available to undergraduates in the fall semester.
In addition to Miller, faculty members involved with the program include Danny Kemp, director of information systems and user support; and Kirk Arnett and Chuck Litecky, professors of management and information systems in the business college.
