Scientists, engineers and mathematicians from around the world gather Friday and Saturday (May 16 and 17) at Mississippi State University to discuss the latest developments in a highly specialized area.

The third Mississippi State University Conference on Differential Equations and Computational Simulations is co-sponsored by the Electronic Journal of Differential Equations and the university's Engineering Research Center. The department of mathematics and statistics also is a sponsor for the event organized biannually by Mississippi State.

Nine leading experts will speak to an estimated 150 participants, said Bharat K. Soni, an aerospace engineering professor and conference organizer.

Among those leading discussions will be S.K. Godunov of the Sobolev Institute of Mathematics in Russia. He is widely recognized for fundamental contributions to computational field simulation research.

Other speakers include Anthony Jameson of Princeton University, known for research in numerical schemes applicable to complex modern configurations; and Stanley Osher of the University of California, Los Angeles, who has made significant contributions in the field of mathematical/numerical algorithms.

Other presenters are Walter Allegretto of the University of Alberta, Canada; Jerry L. Bona of University of Texas; Djairo de Figueiredo of the University of Campinas in Brazil; Jean Mawhin of the University of Louvain in Belgium; Klaus Schmitt of the University of Utah; and Joseph Shang of Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.

In addition to the speakers, the program will include more than 60 research presentations.
