Program to update insurance pros

State Insurance Commissioner George Dale and his Alabama and Kentucky counterparts will be among speakers April 24 for the 10th annual Mississippi State University Insurance Day.

Sponsored by the Peter Koch Lutken Chair-Mississippi Chair of Insurance, the campus program offers a broad range of continuing education classes for professionals, attorneys and others in the field.

Six credit hours for participants has been approved by the insurance commissioner's office and the Committee for Legal Continuing Education. Registration begins at 8 a.m.

Dale is the nation's longest serving insurance commissioner and Mississippi's longest- serving statewide elected official. Joining him on the program will be Alabama commissioner Michael DeBellis and Kentucky commissioner George Nichols.

Robert L. Bailey, chairman and chief executive officer of the State Auto Insurance Co. of Columbus, Ohio, will deliver the keynote address.

Housed in Mississippi State's College of Business and Industry, the Lutken/Mississippi insurance chair, or endowed professorship, is held by Robert A. Hershbarger.

"We invite registrants to arrive a day early (the 23rd) for a series of social activities that will precede the work period," Hershbarger said. Social events include a golf tournament, barbecue and the Mississippi State-University of Southern Mississippi baseball game.
