Golden Triangle captured in photos

The work of the late Mississippi photographer Henry Emil Hoffmeister will be on display through April 30 at Mississippi State University's Mitchell Memorial Library.

"Historic Photographs of the Golden Triangle Area" may be viewed during regular library hours in the second-floor lobby.

The German native, whose career spanned 60 years, arrived in Mississippi in 1895 after 20 years as a successful professional photographer in Nebraska. He opened studios in both Macon and West Point and later moved to Columbus.

In 1901, the award-winning photographer initiated courses in photography at the Industrial Institute and College, now Mississippi University for Women. He served as head of its photography department until 1909.
