Outdoor activities ranging from lawn toss to ring the bottle will highlight a May 2 event for some area nursing home residents.

Members of Mississippi State's Gerontology Club are coordinating the 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. May-Day Extravaganza at Cantrell's Personal Care Home, located on Highway 12.

Families of the residents, as well as those in the community who wish to interact with residents, are invited to attend, said club president Megan Terrell, a senior psychology major from Canton.

"Some of this year's events include duck pond pickup, bucket pitch, kite flying, and many more," she said. "It's one activity of the Gerontology Club, which works to enhance the quality of life for the elderly in our community."

Club members are professors and students from a number of academic areas, including psychology, sociology, physical education, and counseling.

Also participating will be members of Phi Mu sorority and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
