Potential architecture major camp set

A special summer program is being offered at Mississippi State University for high school students contemplating careers in architecture.

Open to persons 15 years of age and older, the annual School of Architecture Design Camp will be held June 13-20.

May 30 is the application deadline. No school transcripts and recommendation letters are required.

"Although we all are affected daily by them, architectural education and the architecture profession often are not fully understood by prospective students," said coordinator Shannon Criss.

The camp's goal is to simulate the information, skill and intensity required for an architectural education. After the eight-day experience, "participants should be able to make an informed career decision about architecture and its related disciplines," Criss said.

The School of Architecture is Mississippi's only accredited academic program offering a professional degree in the field. The five-year undergraduate curriculum includes a final year spent in Jackson developing depth and expertise.

This year's camp generally coincides with June 12-13 and 21-22 orientation sessions for new and transfer students enrolling at the university. Incoming architecture students who plan to attend the 1997 fall semester can register at these times.
