Discover India in week-long celebration

A Mississippi State University student organization will give others a chance to "Discover India" when it hosts a week-long festival focusing on the Asian sub-continent.

Organized by the India Association, "Discover India" will showcase the country with displays and exhibits of Indian artifacts, slide shows, cultural activities, a film festival, and samples of Indian cuisine March 31-April 5.

The celebration culminates in a free, public celebration April 5 at the Bost Extension Center auditorium, beginning with a 7 p.m. reception featuring Indian hors d'oeuvres. A sitar concert, demonstration of classical Indian dances and a fashion show will follow at 8 p.m. In addition, a multimedia show on India travel opportunities will be presented.

Other activities planned for the week include:

March 31-April 3, film festival featuring movies made in India and documentaries about the country, 6 p.m., Colvard Union small auditorium, third floor.

Displays, exhibits, lectures, yoga demonstration April 2-4, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., second-floor lobby, Colvard Union.

April 4, Kanti Tripathi, minister of commerce with the Indian Embassy in Washington, D.C., will discuss economic opportunities in India, 7 p.m., Rogers Auditorium of McCool Hall.
