"Doing Business with Mexico" will be the topic of a public program Friday [Feb. 21] at Mississippi State University.
Jorge Barreto, a officer with Bancomext, will lead the 2-4 p.m. session at the Tennessee Valley Authority Service Center auditorium. The center is located across U.S. Highway 82 from campus in the Mississippi Research and Technology Park.
Bancomext, Mexico's foreign trade bank, primarily is involved with the promotion of business contacts and maintains offices in each of the 31 states of America's southern neighbor.
"Mr. Barreto will discuss market opportunities, financial conditions and potential for joint ventures or other cooperative agreements with Mexican companies," said Edwin M. Duett Jr. "This program should provide useful information on contacts in exports and imports."
Duett, an associate professor of finance and economics, is co-director of the College of Business and Industry's Partnership for International Business.
The partnership program was established last year through a $300,000 U.S Department of Education grant designed to increase international business education and opportunities in Mississippi.
Barreto's visit also is sponsored by the Golden Triangle Planning and Development District, North Mississippi Industrial Development Association, Oktibbeha County Economic Development Authority, Starkville Area Chamber of Commerce, and TVA.
